Nottinghamshire Police has published a photo of the seven-year-old Bestwood Park murder victim Shanay Rihanna Walker.
The girl, who attended Robin Hood primary school, was named on Monday when Kay-Ann Morris, 23, of Beckhampton Road, appeared before magistrates charged with her murder.
Police also released post-mortem examination results, which revealed the primary cause of the young girl's death was a head injury.
A 47-year-old man, also arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released without charge.
Morris was arrested on Thursday after police were called to a home in Beckhampton Road with concerns for the child's safety.
She is expected to appear in Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday.
Tributes of flowers and toys have been laid at the house, including a message from Shanay's father, which read: "Sometimes God picks a flower that is in full bloom. Sometimes the flower he picks we feel is chosen too soon. But forever in our hearts is where you will stay. An angel above until we meet again."
