County Cup: Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law felt his side made hard work of seeing off South Normanton Athletic before progressing to the quarter-finals of the Derbyshire Senior Cup. The Reds edged the verdict 1-0 against the East Midlands Counties League Premier side thanks to a stunning 30-yard shot from defender Bradley Wood on 63 minutes. But Law said: "They (South Normanton) came and shut up shop, they worked hard and made it difficult for us, but having said that, with all due respect, we have huffed and puffed and have made life hard for ourselves. "It has taken a goal that would grace any Premier League ground to win it and I don't think he (Wood) will ever get one like it again. "He hit it from 30 yards and it went in off the underside of the bar. It was a great goal, but as far as I am concerned it has taken a wonder goal to get us through." Law used the game to give game time to several players who haven't figured much recently but he was left unconvinced that many will force their way into his side for this Saturday's Conference game at FC Halifax Town. Midlands League: Aaron Webster scored a 94th-minute penalty to put Basford United through to the quarter-finals of the Midland League Premier Division Cup after a 2-1 win at Quorn. Dom Brennan gave the home side the lead in the 23rd minute and Ryan Whitehurst levelled for Basford in the second minute of the second half. It looked odds on extra time but then came Webster's late strike. In league action, Dunkirk drew 2-2 away to Kirby Muxloe. Precision NSL The league has vacancies for the 2015/16 season as it seeks to continue the recent expansion across its three divisions. Clubs interested in joining the Saturday afternoon Nottingham league, whose Senior Division operates at step seven of the non-league pyramid, are asked to call 07803 267825 or email johnbeeston1775@sky.com. Meanwhile, NSL outfit Boots Athletic are on the lookout for a management team to run their first team, which plays in the Senior Division. Interested parties are asked to contact chairman Dick Durrant on 07875 886602.
